Carlos Augusto Santana Alves (Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico, July 20, 19471), is a Mexican jazz-rock and Latin rock guitarist, multi-winner of the Grammy. He is considered the 15th best guitarist of all time, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Carlos Santana stuck with the band's name and continued his tour of the United States with a number of different musicians, releasing several albums. During this period Santana adopted the name "Devadip", conferred by the spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy. He released many albums in the 1970s and 1980s, including collaborations with John Lee Hooker, Willie Nelson, Herbie Hancock, Booker T. Jones, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

In 1991, Santana collaborated on the Ottmar Liebert album Only for you, on the songs “Reaching out 2 U” and a new recording of his own song “Samba pa ti”. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. In 1971, General Juan Velasco Alvarado forbade him to play in Peru and expelled him from the country after classifying him as an “imperialist hippie”. In 1972 Santana took the lead from John McLaughlin and headed in a spiritual, jazz / fusion direction. The world adopted Carlos with passion. They were fascinated by his ever-changing, ever-exalting, ever-increasing yet always consistently and clearly music; Carlos. Each new release including eight gold and seven platinum albums came from being a reflection of Carlos' personal growth and evolution. Fans were also delighted with his gentle prompting messages of peace, compassion, joy and understanding that he has consistently delivered to us in a sincere and personal way at his shows in more than 50 countries. The style in which he plays his guitar that to this day remains among the most distinctive in the world.

From Santana's ensemble's double-platinum debut album, “SANTANA,” and the next quadruple-platinum album from “ABRAXAS,” to the expansive embedded game retrospective, “DANCE OF THE RAINBOW SERPENT,” released in 1995, from solo works. Carlos' jazz-influenced hits, to the exciting and highly personal “BLUES FOR SALVADOR”, to his special debut on John Lee Hooker's album “CHILL OUT”… from the G&G produced album “BROTHERS” (which included songs by Carlos, his brother Jorge and his nephew, Carlos Hernández), until the 1996 premiere of “MYSTIC MAN”, by the Italian composer, Paolo Rustichelli… from the retrospective video in 1988, “¡VIVA SANTANA!”, to the video of the concert in South America in 1993, “SACRED FIRE”, to the release in 1997 of the CD-ROM, “THE HISTORY OF SANTANA: THE RIVER OF COLOR AND SOUND” and “SANTANA: LIVE AT THE FILLMORE”, a CD double showing sessions recorded at the ensemble's shows in 1968 at the legendary club San Fra ncisco, it is clear that Carlos always demonstrates an uncompromising passion for his musical expression.
